My First Harvest

You won't believe it...I hardly did. I picked my first tomato from my garden today! And when I went to get it, I saw a lot more green tomatoes growing. I'm so excited!! There is actually a chance for me to bottle something that I've grown and add it to our food storage. Wow, what a feeling. I know I'm a novice but this is amazing especially since I killed most all the other vegetables.
(The cantaloupe is the only other plant that looks like it might produce something.)

Provo Canyon Half Marathon

I'll let Jessica write her own blog entry about her training and the actual Half Marathon event today but I took some video of it, so I thought I'd post it. We're all very impressed and proud of her!

Blake and Garrett

Earlier this week I went to Payson to have lunch with my friend Natalie so Gina and the boys came along. Dad had asked us to get more pictures with just Blake and Garrett since they were missing in the 4th of July photo. It was a hoot trying to get the picture because Blake kept flipping over trying to look over his shoulder; then he ended up getting wedged in between two pillows, so we quickly put Garrett in the photo with him; and finally, Jaxson helped us by holding them at each side. You'll see the difficulty we had along the way through these photos:

New Pictures of Max and Garrett

I took some updated pictures of Max and Garrett this morning. They both just had their baths so it was a good time to take their pictures.

Sonia's Car Gets Broken Into

On Monday morning (28th), we received a phone call at around 6:30 in the morning. The person on the phone asked if this was the Shirts residence. Sonia said yes. She told her that a police officer was knocking on our door and needed to speak to us. Sonia woke us up and I threw on a robe and ran upstairs.

At first I thought our storage unit was broken into and that they stole everything. But Sonia said it had to do with our car. I thought, oh no, someone stole our car. When I opened up the door I looked out and saw that our van was still there. The police officer standing there asked who the Kia belonged to. I said my sister. He said, well that's who I need to speak to. So I ran downstairs and yelled for Sonia. I told her it was her car.

She was brushing her teeth and was on her way up. I went outside and saw what had happened. You can see all of the pictures I took. Two men (18 years old and 20 years old) broke into several cars in the neighborhood in Lehi as well as Highland. They were looking for quick money and were only stealing wallets/purses.

Sonia had a small empty makeup bag sitting on the floor. They must have thought it was a purse and so they smashed her window and took it. In one of the pictures that shows the floor of the passenger side, you can see one spot where there is no glass - that is where it was. It must have been a shock to them to grab it and run just to find out that there was nothing inside.

The good news is that they caught the guys red-handed. And because they stole a wallet which contained credit cards, it is a felony and not just a misdemeanor. The bad news is that Sonia has to pay a $500 deductible because they have to replace the window, fix the bent door frame (they used a crowbar to shatter the window), remove the seats to vacuum out the glass, fix the wood paneling on the dash that had scratches from the glass and fix the driver side door panel because it had little holes from the glass. Again, the good news is that because they caught the guys, her insurance agency will be able to sue them for the damages and once they collect, they will refund Sonia's deductible. But they said it could take awhile.

Needless to say, we cleaned out part of the garage to fit at least one car inside. We will continue to clean out the rest so we can fit hers and mine.
